Within the global LGBTQ community lies a trove of stories that transcends generational divides. Whereas some children today are able to come out to their friends and families with the utmost ease, others had to live the majority of their lives in the closet, afraid of being ostracized by their communities and abandoned by loved ones.
These were the fears of Martin, who waited until he was 85 years old to officially come out. In a new series produced by 5 Gum, Martin shares his story and finds out how it has affected young LGBTQ people around the world.
“I regret being such a sissy – so nervous, so bloody shy,” he says. “I’ve missed the boat as regards finding a lovely partner, a soulmate that I could love, live with.” He goes on to say that we owe it to ourselves to be happy and to make other people happy. Watch Martin’s story and footage of him at his first Pride, below.
