The results found that heterosexuals were least likely to be open.
Gay and bisexual people are more likely to date a trans person, according to new research.
The study of trans exclusion from dating – which was published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships – asked nearly 1,000 cis people of various ages which gender they would date.
Out of everyone asked, only 12 per cent of participants said they would be open to date a trans person and were found to be older, more educated and less religious people.
Heterosexuals were the least likely to date a trans person, with just 1.8 per cent of straight women and 3.3 per cent of men.
Half of the straight men and women who said they would date a trans person included trans women and trans men.
Those who didn’t identify as heterosexual were more likely to be open to date a trans person with 11.5 per cent of gay men and 29 per cent of lesbians saying their dating preferences were trans-inclusive.
Of the lesbians open to date a trans person, 38 per cent say they would date a trans man but not trans women.
More than half (52 per cent) of bisexual and queer participants would consider dating a trans person.
