Seattle is not only an eclectic and at times, eccentric city, it also one of the most gay-friendly on the West Coast, featuring more than a dozen LGBT bars in its popular neighborhood of Capitol Hill. While some of Seattle’s gay bars may seem to cater to strictly men or women, the majority of them welcome all (even if you’re straight) to party, dance and have a good time.
Pony
Pony, voted the
best gay bar in Seattle for 2013 by
Seattle Weekly, is a one-of-a-kind bar that pays tribute to New York’s Castro and West Village bars of the 1970s. Before it became Pony, this 1930s building was a vintage gas station that has now been completely transformed into one of Seattle’s favorite hangouts. In addition to having great DJs spinning the best dance music every night of the week, you can also hang out outside year-round via the bar’s patio that features a gas fire pit and retractable roof to shield you from the elements. Check Pony’s website for updates on all upcoming events, including weekly and monthly parties.
The Crescent Lounge
This popular Capitol Hill bar is considered one of the best in the neighborhood for its nightly karaoke, daily six-hour happy hours from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the fun crowds of people and its weekly comedy night on Tuesdays. Stop by The Crescent Lounge and sing your favorite songs by yourself or with a group of friends and meet a different karaoke host each night. Sunday night karaoke always offers extra songs to choose from. When patrons are not singing karaoke, they can enjoy an old-style jukebox to play and dance to some of their favorite tunes, as well as $4 well drinks, $6 to $8 beer pitchers or $2 to $3 pints.
The Lobby Bar
You’ll find the friendliest bartenders in town, as well as an upscale, cosmopolitan atmosphere that isn’t snobby or rude, but instead relaxed and carefree. The Lobby Bar prides itself on serving a variety of well-concocted cocktails, delicious cuisine and fresh from the Pacific Northwest appetizers. The Lobby Bar offers a daily happy hour from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., a Thursday special of 23.5-ounce Long Island iced teas for $6 and every Tuesday is ‘Big Gay Trivia’ starting at 8 p.m.
C.C. Attle’s
Open since 1993, this “bear bar” is considered a dive to some. For regulars, however, it’s a cool, relaxing bar where you can hang with friends or your significant other, catch a Seahawks game, eat great food and follow that with a beer or strong cocktail. Every Tuesday, C.C. Attle’s features a stand-up comedy, open-mic night called the Beard Practice where anyone can register and have a five-minute spot to give the crowd your best jokes and comedy routine.
WildRose
Owned and operated by women since 1984, Seattle’s Wildrose was voted the third “Best Gay and Lesbian Bar” in the 2013 “Evening Magazine” Best of Western Washington
poll. Most categorize Wildrose as a lesbian bar, but its motto is “A place for women…and all are welcome.” Monday is a popular night at Wildrose as it airs Monday night football and then has its weekly trivia game starting at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, you can find daily drink specials and on Tuesday and Wednesday, great food deals too. Come by on the weekends and dance to the fun, funky beats the DJ is spinning, enter a beer pong tournament or sing along with the karaoke participants.
