Just four short months ago, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s life was saved by the heroic actions of an openly lesbian officer named Crystal Griner.
When a shooter opened fire on Republicans lawmakers who were practicing for a charity baseball game in Washington DC, Griner sprang into action, running towards the bullets and in the process, saving the Republican congressman’s life.
The married lesbian officer was shot in the ankle before killing the gunman.
Now, Scalise is scheduled to speak before the Family Research Council (FRC), a vehemently anti-gay hate group.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed the FRC as an anti-LGBT hate group.
In 2006, Scalise co-sponsored a failed Constitutional Amendment to outlaw same-sex marriage in the United States.
The amendment supported by Scalise read:
“Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.”
After making a full recovery, Scalise will honor Griner by lending his support to an organization that would like to strip away her rights.
