Karamo Brown may be known for giving life advice, but when it came to wooing now-fiancé Ian Jordan, he had to put in some work.

Queer Eye’s culture expert proposed to Jordan back in May after eight years of dating at a surprise birthday event in Los Angeles.

In a new interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle, the happy couple shared how they met—and how this fairytale almost never happened because of Brown’s Facebook relationship status.
