We all love sex, especially us gay folk. Men are sexual by nature. It’s what makes our biological structure the way it is, in fact, sexual release is what keeps us grounded. But how much is too much?

Sex addiction is very real and is just as serious as any other addiction. The common misconception is that it’s all about the sex – this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Just as someone with an eating disorder wouldn’t say that it’s “all about the food” or someone with a gambling problem wouldn’t say it’s “all about the money,” people who are addicted to sex have an underlining issue that has yet to be resolved. Still, there are plenty of red flags to watch out for.
  • Is It Out Of Your Control? – If you feel that you don’t have a say in the matter or can’t stop yourself from fantasizing, you should do a bit more investigating. You may have trained your brain into replacing sex with all other forms of satisfaction.
  • Do You Act On It, Despite Consequences? – This is denial, one of the major signs of addiction. You know that it will reap major consequences, but you deny its importance and still carry forward with the act.
  • Are You Building A Higher Tolerance? – If you need more and more to be satisfied, you will put yourself in more dangerous situations.
  • Are You Doing More Than You Anticipate? – If you are constantly having more sexual activity than you originally planned on, this is a sign you are losing control.
  • Are You Neglecting Your Responsibilities? – If you being to ignore the people and things that were important to you at one time, i.e. friends, family, events, this is a sign that sex is taking over your life.
  • Do You Continue, Despite Bad Experiences? – If you’ve had multiple bad experiences or STD scares, but still continue and don’t see it as important, your addiction may be blinding your logic.
  • Does Sexual Activity Take Up Most Of Your Day? – If you’re spending more hours on Grindr, watching porn, or having sex than you are in every other area of your life, it’s probably time to stop.
  • Is Sexual Activity The Way You Cope With Situations? – When you use sex as an antidote to life’s difficulties, i.e. bad work environment, complicated relationships, money issues, you may have tricked yourself into thinking it’s the only escape you have.
If you or someone you know feels that they may be addicted to sex, you are not alone. Many men have struggled and made it through the other end.
